Why Everyone Needs an Estate Plan

     Thinking about your mortality is never easy and therefore, getting our house in order is often postponed.  Estate planning, however, can spare your family a host of problems and can ensure that your wishes will be carried out.  These matters are too critical to be left to chance.  A good estate plan will include several documents: 1) a durable power of attorney authorizes someone else to make financial decisions on your behalf if you become incapacitated; 2) a will allows you to specify who will be your children's guardian, what will happen to your property and who will manage your estate; 3) a living will states what types of medical treatment you want during the final stages of life; 4) a health-care power of attorney allows someone to make health-care decisions for you.  Having your house in order is an exercise in stewardship.

"HIT THE ROAD"

     Retired and wondering what to do with all that time on your hands?  What do you think about taking a day trip with a few members of the church?  I am asking for suggestions about places of interest you would like to visit, For Example:

* A Paddle Boat & Buffet Experience
* Christmas light tour
* Group meal at an Amish Inn
* Quilt Steam Engine or Car Show
* Christmas Shopping at Grove City
* Cleveland Art Museum

     Thanks to the Ashtabula Senior Center we now have access to a 14 passenger van we can schedule for short day trips or we can just car pool.  I would like to see if we can put together a "BAND OF HAPPY WANDERS" to take occasional outings.  What about it . . . are you willing to hit the road and wander a bit?  Get your suggestions into the office or talk with Rev. Chuck.

     In the mean time you may want to consider these travel options:
- Nov. 17th Grove City Shopping with Sr. Jean and the "Golden Elites" $10.00

Have you Forgotten?
by Catherine Frank

Developing Christian Education for our young

Many of you can still remember the Sunday mornings of times past.  Some families had a big breakfast together and then hurried to prepare for the Sunday School and Worship Services.  It wasn't like that for me.  However, those of you who do remember, do you who do remember the feelings of fulfillment and gratitude for the Sunday activities?  The warm smiles, cheeks, the hugs, the love you felt?  The warm glow you felt inside knowing our Lord?  Do you still have those feelings when you come to church now?  Do you feel them because of the memories you have or because you contribute to the development of Christian Education for yourself or for the young.

This summer I had the opportunity to witness a lot of love, fellowship and sincere commitment from many Disciples of our congregation during the Vacation Bible School.  I was amazed, walked away in wonderment every day as to the true meaning of Christianity.  I can honestly say, that was probably the happiest week of my adult life.  I pray every day we could all share the love we have for our young, let them know we are dedicated to the development of

  their faith and belief in our Lord.

Those of you who do remember the warmth and love, I'm asking for you to please come forward and share the love you have in your hearts to strengthen and enrich our young through Christian Education, One Room Schoolhouse and Crib Room dedications.

The clipboard is always available in the lobby of the church, on Sunday mornings as well as the other six days!  Forgot to sign, please call me (593-3608) or the church office (593-2525) we will be happy to help!  I've made a new chart so it is easy to see the empty slots of need.  Pens provided.

Please feel free to join our committee as we will meet Oct. 7, 1007 @ 9:30 a.m.  Light refreshments will be served.  Your suggestions and thoughts are definitely important to the committee so please come and share them.

Our parish needs to grow through our youth ministry.  Please help! Please pray for our success in development of Christian Education!
THANK YOU.

BIBLE STUDY @ EAST CONNEAUT

      One of the first valuable roles parents can play, whether their children are youth or adults, is to help them understand the importance of philanthropy and to assist them in discovering their own philanthropic values.  The philanthropic tradition must be taught and passed from one generation to the next, lest it wither and die.  To fail to instill these values in young people risks losing the heart of our society and the giving and volunteering that sustain it.
     Leading by example and exposing children the a variety of opportunities is one of the most important ways to engage children, who then acquire philanthropic values, in part, by observing and participating alongside family members, teachers and other adult mentors.  Parents also can help establish these habits through their religious communities, where children can learn about rituals of giving during religious services, such as putting money in a collection plate, and can engage in volunteer work.
     The process can begin in children as young as toddlers.  Using language such as "you are helping our family" can help them understand why they should contribute to their family, school and community.  By middle school, children are open to the realization that philanthropy is a tradition that exists around the world and should be involved in a regular, planned volunteer experience.  In high school youth should be encouraged to become active in personal giving.
The proceeding was excerpted from an article by Eugene R. Tempel.

     The 2007 Charge Conference season is upon us.  Charge (or Church as we do it now) Conference is an annual event within each United Methodist Church.  During the Conference the new slate of Leaders is elected into place, the Pastor's salary package is solidified, budgets and goals affirmed and reports are given to relay how things went the previous year.  The actual Charge Conference is for all members of the Administrative Council, Staff-Parish Relations Committee and, since it is a "Church Conference" anyone who is a member is welcome to come and have voice & vote.

     Charge Conference will be held Tues., Oct. 23rd at our church.  Worship begins at 7 p.m. followed by fellowship from 7:30 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. & Charge Conference at 8 p.m.  The Pastor-Parish Committee will meet with Larry Marshall Sunday, Oct. 7 @ Gageville UM Church @ 4 p.m.
